Software & Equipment

Our pre-press department is 100 percent computer to plate. We prefer PDF files but can accept Tiff, EPS, Postscript and native application files. Native files are subject to additional charges for generating PDF files.

We support the latest desktop publishing (DTP) software for Mac and PC: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress and PageMaker.

InSite: A robust, powerful, user-friendly and secured Internet portal you can access from just about anywhere. Designed to streamline print production and the processes of job submission, collaboration, proofing and job-status tracking. All that is required of you is a web-enabled computer or laptop. Feel free to go to the downloads page and learn more about InSite. Ask about an InSite demo.

FTP site:
Our secured FTP server is another option to remotely submit your files. Designed for the customer who does not require soft proofing. Please contact your sales rep/CSR to learn more about FTP and obtain a login and password.

File Specifications

Preparing your job in the most effective manner allows us to output and print your job accurately and cost effectively. In an effort to ensure your PDF files are print ready we ask you follow the listed guidelines.

We request test files prior to going live. If you plan to upgrade or change software and/or hardware please contact us. Changes in your workflow can alter the integrity of your PDF files. We want to work with you to get it right the first time.

Images:
- Convert all B/W images to grayscale mode.
- Convert all color images and graphics to CMYK mode.
- Images need to be 100% of their printing size. Avoid reducing or enlarging images after importing them into a page layout application. This rule applies to CMYK images and grayscale images. Below is a list of recommended image resolutions based on the output resolutions we use.

Output Resolution
123 LPI (Open web/newsprint stocks)
150 LPI (heatset 38#-45# stocks)
175 LPI (heatset 50#-10pt card stocks)
Image Resolution
250 DPI
300 DPI
350 DPI

Fonts: - We prefer you use Adobe PostScript fonts, please include the screen and printer font. We also accept True Type and Open Face fonts.
- If submitting native file please provide the fonts (screen and printer) with the job.
- Black type must be built at 100 % black. Do not use “Registration Black” or any 4-color black offered in the color palettes of layout applications.
- Avoid reverse type and 4-color type smaller than 10 points. It may not reproduce well.

Color Layout:
Create pantone and custom colors using a process color channel (magenta or cyan).

PDF files:
- Make sure all images are updated and linked. Fonts (screen and printer) are loaded and linked.
- PDF document size should be to finish size. Unless a bleed page, then document size should be to bleed size.
- All content (text, images and borders) must be centered to display a proportional white border on the PDF document.
- We prefer single page PDF files for each page, but will accept single PDF file containing all pages.
- Naming conventions – Use only alphabet, numeric or underscore. We recommend files be named; page#_publicationname_publicationdate
